What’s your dream job?

This question used to be easy for me when I was younger. To be honest, its changed pretty frequently as I have been growing older.

I know some people have this predetermined goal and idea of what they wish to be when they grow up and what their dream position looks like. Some people were born to be firefighters, teachers, police officers and or something meaningful to society. I on the other hand, have not found the perfect match or had a concrete destined dream job.

SIX YEARS old to Teenager

When I was a little kid around six years old, I heard I have always liked to sing randomly at parties. People would gather round and clap for me and my parents said I loved it. The dream then was to be a singer.

Fast forward a couple years and with a dash of reality, I realized I wasn’t gifted for singing. People just enjoyed watching a little kid and clapped for support. Although it sounds harsh that’s the real world, everyone can “sing” but it takes talent to be considered a “singer”.

The next dream job came around when I was eleven years old. I started playing soccer and really enjoyed it. I started getting better as I grew older and it really became part of my life. The dream was now to be a soccer player and it lasted until the end of my teenage years.

Why did it end? That’s easy because of the reality of life. Just like with singing, not everyone is gifted enough to be professional. I was at the best of my physical fitness that i had ever been yet I was not gifted enough to make it in the big leagues. I decided to focus my efforts on other aspects of my life and part ways with the Soccer player dream job.

TWENTIES to Present Day

After graduating from University, it will probably sound odd but I had chosen a major that would not tie me to a specific role. Information Systems does not mean only computers. It also includes programming, dealing with new processes and the business aspect of technology as well. I have a great job at the moment, its not a soccer player or a singer unfortunately. Although, what makes this job great is not entirely what I do on an every day basis.

Its the lifestyle that it allows me. I am fortunate enough to work from home, this allows me to see my son every day all day and be around in case he needs me. Which brings me to my new dream “job”.

My dream job now is a job that balances work and life. I have seen so many people get burnt out and others who spend more time at work than at home. To me that defeats the purpose completely, you are supposed to live at your home and go to work not live at your work and go home. I know some people have to work all the time to provide for your families or make ends meet and you all are amazing! Although, if you ever have the opportunity of a work from home gig, you will see what I mean.

To be more direct, my dream job is now PEACE OF MIND. As long as I am not having to choose between my family time and work time. I can say I am living the dream.

I know that was a long read but thank you if you read this far!

I also run a podcast with my friends as I’ve mentioned in another post but if you like the vibe come and check us out! You can even listen directly from our site!
