For this episode, Billy, Daysi and I share our thoughts on this huge topic around Female and Male Chauvinism. We went into this not knowing exactly what would come about. All three of us come from similar but different backgrounds so I was super curious what their thoughts would be.
MACHISMO
Just to translate, in Hispanic communities we refer to male chauvinism as Machismo. The majority of hispanic millennials have grown around some form of Machismo culture. In the episode, we talk about our home life growing up and how it compares to our current situation.
We go more into depth in the episode but we come to the conclusion that most Hispanic homes faced this Machismo culture growing up. Which directly affected some of us to the point where we do not want history to repeat itself.
FEMINISM
During the episode, we address the huge misconception of what feminism really means. We believe people use the word wrong and make it seem like Feminism is the opposite of Machismo. When in reality, feminism is a movement for women to be seen with the same equal rights as men.
When people say feminism is bad, they don’t mean the true definition of feminism. They are talking about chauvinism.
CHAUVINISM
We come to the conclusion that Machismo is male chauvinism while the feminism most people refer to is really female chauvinism. Whenever both sides, either male or female, feel superior to the other sex. Listen to the episode to see what our thoughts about these topics are and some of our personal stories to back it up.
I was actually surprised that Daysi was able to join us since it was a really last-minute meet. But there’s something about the spontaneous moments in life that just make things great.
We hope you enjoy the read and the episode. Make sure to listen to our thoughts on your favorite platform here or listen directly from our site here.
